Birth Defects Attorneys at The Onder Law Firm Clarify Celexa and Lexapro Birth Defects Lawsuit Statue of Limitations

Celexa and Lexapro birth defect lawsuits are an option for children born with birth defects after the mother took the antidepressant during pregnancy and gave birth in 1991 or later.

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) August 24, 2011

The law firm of Onder, Shelton, O’Leary & Peterson, national birth defects attorneys headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, wish to inform parents of children born with birth defects that are now as old as 20, 26 in Missouri, that they may be eligible for inclusion in Celexa or Lexapro birth defect lawsuits if the mother used an antidepressant during pregnancy. Many parents of children born with birth defects have been under the impression that only those children born within the last several years may file a Celexa or Lexapro birth defect lawsuit. New safety warnings and medical studies published in the last 5 years have shown there to be a link between antidepressant use, including Celexa and Lexapro, and birth defects such as congenital heart defects and neural tube birth defects. Neural tube birth defects are those affecting the tissue that grows into the spinal cord and brain, the most common of which is anencephaly, a birth defect that can result in missing portions of the skull, cerebral hemispheres or cerebellum portions of the brain The FDA issued a safety warning regarding the increased risk of bearing a child with persistent pulmonary hypertension after the mother used antidepressants during pregnancy in 2006 which was then followed by a study demonstrating the same that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine (354:579-587). The New England Journal of Medicine went on to publish the results of another study in 2007 (356:2675-2683) went on to publish the results of another study in 2007 showing that SSRI antidepressants may increase the risk of neural tube birth defects. The firm has received reports of a wide array of birth defects after Celexa and Lexapro use, including cleft palate, club foot, spina bifida, anal atresia and omphalocele.

Celexa and Lexapro birth defect lawsuits may provide the financial resources necessary for a lifetime of care or pay for expensive medical procedures not yet known that may someday be able to correct some severe birth defects currently thought to be permanent. Forest Laboratories, Inc., the pharmaceutical firm that manufactures and markets Lexapro settled certain allegations regarding Celexa, Lexapro and one drug approximately one year ago by entering into a $313 million settlement with the Department of Justice, including paying a $150 million criminal fine.

The Onder Law Firm welcomes inquiries from law firms in regards to handling or working as co-counsel on claims of serious birth defects stemming from antidepressant use during pregnancy.
